A Shadow in the Ember - Jennifer L. Armentrout

A Shadow in the Ember - Jennifer L. Armentrout

Uuuugh, where do I begin? I just love Jennifer‘s writing and her ability to make me fall in love with every single character of hers. I adore her books, her stories and the whole world building is phenomenal.

A Shadow in the Ember is the first book in the Flesh and Fire series, which is set in the Blood and Ash world. Personally, I would highly recommend reading the Blood and Ash series first, but on the other hand this book may be a good start in the series overall because of the given background information.

First of all, can we please all talk about the dragons? The BABY dragons? When I tell you my jaw dropped to the floor, these scenes where so hilarious and adorable I want a baby dragon all for myself and I hope we will see a lot more of them in the upcoming forth book of Blood and Ash.

Although, A Shadow in the Ember had a lot of similarities to Blood and Ash, which is critisism I totally understand, I couldn’t help but love and enjoy this book from the first word to the last. It was amazing.

We get a lot of information that I think we need for the next Blood and Ash books but we also have information from those books that helped me understand certain points in this one.

Also, the characters, their development, the tension and angst, it completely captivated me and I couldn’t stop reading. It was such an amazing book and I loved the similarities to Poppy and Casteel.

I read a few reviews from other readers and I can fully understand that most of them didn’t enjoy all those similarities but I think we need to remember that Sera and Nyktos are in a completely different situation and live at another time – I mean, the Gods are alive!- and  there are a lot of aspects that are new in this book. Also, their whole relationship is different and their character development as well, which does not mean that it’s not as good as Poppy’s for example.

Sera and Nyktos were great character, I enjoyed reading their scenes but I also loved the side characters and their relationship development with Sera.

I can’t belive that I finished this book so fast because I really don’t want to wait so long before we can continue reading this series. I am so excited for the next book and I can’t wait to read the forth Blood and Ash book in March! I really, really hope we get more dragons.
